In August 2021, DHIC was awarded tax credit funding from the NC Housing Finance Agency to build Ashton Place in Durham for seniors ages 55 and older. Ashton Place will provide 51 units serving seniors at or below 60% of the area median income (AMI) and will offer efficiency, one, and two-bedroom apartments.

Ashton Place will provide a high quality living experience for seniors in the heart of downtown Durham. Located adjacent to the Durham Station Transportation Center and the recently completed Willard Street Apartments family LIHTC project, the site offers convenient access to local and regional transportation options. Other nearby land uses include the American Tobacco Campus, Durham Bulls Athletic Park, Durham Performing Arts Center, restaurants and retail on Main Street, market-rate residential, office space, government and nonprofit services, and shopping. Finally, the city’s main senior center is located just several blocks from the site and offers numerous programs and services for senior citizens.
