Ashton Place
Ashton Place Apartments will offer 51 affordable apartment homes: 12 efficiency units, 28 one-bedroom/one-bath units & 11 two-bedroom/one bath units for senior households with incomes at or below 60% of area median income. Accessible units are available. Ashton will feature common area laundry facility, computer center for residents, community gathering room with kitchen, tenant storage areas, fitness room with equipment, indoor and outdoor sitting area, complimentary WIFI and on-site management. Ashton Place is 100% Smoke Free – no smoking will be allowed anywhere on the grounds.
Brookridge
Brookridge offers 40 studio apartments in a smoke-free building for individuals with annual incomes of 50% or less of the median income for Wake County. Each studio apartment, approximately 450 square feet, includes a full kitchen and bath, along with a combination living and sleeping area. With ample storage space and open floor plans, these studios offer roominess and flexibility.
DHIC worked with Wake County Human Services and representatives from referral agencies to plan Brookridge as a community that helps individuals make the successful transition from homelessness, transitional housing programs and overcrowded, costly or substandard housing. Ten units are restricted to individuals earning 30% of area median income (AMI), 20 units are for individuals earning 40% of AMI, and 10 units are for individuals earning 50% of AMI.
Willow Creek
DHIC recently completed Willow Creek, a 53-unit, 100% smoke-free apartment community in Cary for older adults, ages 55 and above. Conveniently located near the Morrisville Market shopping center off Davis Dr., Willow Creek residents enjoy the convenience and walkability to nearby retail and services. A hallmark of DHIC’s design, Willow Creek apartments are eco-friendly with water saving fixtures, and energy-efficient heating, cooling and appliances and features amenities that encourage interaction among neighbors. Through a partnership with Resources for Seniors, various services and community activities for the senior residents are offered.
Wakefield Manor
Wakefield Manor offers 96 one- and two-bedroom apartments homes in a smoke-free building for seniors ages 55 years and older in Wakefield Plantation of North Raleigh. This convenient location provides residents with easy access to shopping, restaurants, healthcare, public transportation, banks, and entertainment.
Supportive services through Resources for Seniors of Wake County are available for individuals with special needs, in addition to regularly programmed activities for all residents.
Pennington Grove I & II
Pennington Grove is 100% smoke-free apartment community in Garner for active adults, ages 55 and above, made up of two buildings. Located off of Heather Park Drive, at Pennington Grove I & II, residents enjoy the convenience of nearby retail, services, and the brand new Pool Family YMCA. A hallmark of DHIC’s design, Pennington Grove I & II apartments are eco-friendly with water saving fixtures, and energy-efficient heating, cooling and appliances and features amenities that encourage interaction among neighbors. Through a partnership with Resources for Seniors, various services and community activities for the senior residents are offered. All units are for senior households with incomes at or below 60% of area median income.
Pennington Grove I has 83 units and was completed in 2018. Pennington Grove II was completed in 2022 and offers 69 affordable apartment homes.
Murphey School
Murphey School is a 48-unit apartment community conveniently located in downtown Raleigh adjacent to the historic Oakwood neighborhood. A Raleigh Historic Landmark, the newly renovated Murphey School Apartments provides a security system, elevator, fireproof design with sprinklers throughout, on-site resident manager, on-site laundry facilities, fitness room, a library/media room including computers for resident use, handicapped accessible units, ample community space for resident activities, and new landscaping.
Supportive services through Resources for Seniors of Wake County are available for individuals with special needs, in addition to regularly programmed activities for all residents.
Meadowcreek Commons
Meadowcreek Commons offers 48 high-quality, yet affordable apartments for seniors 55 years of age and greater. These apartments have been designed, built, and registered for LEED for Homes Silver certification by the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED for Homes program.
LEED for Homes is a national, voluntary certification system, developed by experts and experienced builders, that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. The LEED for Homes program also encourages the adoption of sustainable practices by the homebuilding industry.
LEED for Homes is part of the suite of nationally recognized LEED Green Building Rating Systems administered by the USGBC. Third party verification of Highland Terrace’s LEED certification credits is accomplished through a partnership with Southern Energy Management of Morrisville, NC.
Maplewood Square
Maplewood Square offers 32 one- and two- bedroom Energy Star certified apartment homes in a smoke-free building for seniors ages 55+ in Durham’s West End Neighborhood. This convenient location provides residents with easy access to Lyon Park Senior Center, Duke University and Medical Center, Lakewood Shopping Center, restaurants, banks, entertainment, and much more! Maplewood Square is also within minutes of Downtown Durham, Brightleaf Square, Ninth Street Shopping, the public library, and just two blocks from the bus stop.
Supportive service coordination through Durham Center for Senior Life are available for individuals with special needs, in addition to regularly programmed activities for all residents.
Highland Terrace

Water Garden Village is our brand new, 100% smoke-free development located in Northwest Raleigh. Designed and built to achieve LEED Gold and Energy Star certifications, Water Garden Village’s green design elements help make this development an environmentally friendly and cost-effective place to live.
Water Garden Village features one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Apartments are available to households that meet certain income limits. Handicapped accessible units are available.
Beacon Ridge
Beacon Ridge offers a total of 120 apartment homes: 20 one-bedroom/one bath units and 72 two-bedroom/one & two bath units and 28 three-bedroom/two bath units available to households with incomes at or below 60% of area median income. Accessible units available.
