Rental Communities
At DHIC, we are proud to own and manage more than 3,200 apartment homes across the North Carolina Triangle area and beyond. Our properties are designed and located in diverse neighborhoods, offering high-quality housing options for families, seniors, and individuals.
We partner with private property management companies to ensure our communities are safe, well maintained, and inclusive.
Affordable and Accessible Housing
All of our apartment communities have income restrictions, offering lower rent costs than typically found in the marketplace. We also have communities that are age-restricted.
Finding affordable housing is challenging and most of our properties have waiting lists or no availability.
We hire private property management companies to maintain and manage our homes. We take pride in the homes we build and are committed to keeping our homes safe, attractive, and inclusive.
Are you interested in living in one of our rental communities?
Each DHIC property has its own leasing office that manages the application process and waitlist. If you have questions about unit availability, eligibility, or the application process, please contact the leasing office of each property. DHIC does not maintain this information in its corporate office.
What is the application process?
An application and non-refundable application fee ranging from $20-$35 is required for each property. The application fee of $20-$35 is used to cover the cost of credit and background screening and is not refundable after the application is submitted. Information cannot be shared across properties.
All adults, 18 and older, who will be living in the household must be listed on the application and will be subject to a credit check and criminal background check.
-
Visit our rental community page linked here and identify the communities that you are interested in. Your housing options will vary by location, availability, type and eligibility.
-
After choosing the property you're interested in, ask yourself two questions:
Is there availability at this property?
Am I eligible to live here?
To check availability, contact the property manager of the community you're interested in. The contact information of each property is listed on their property page via the rental communities page. They can tell you if there are open apartments or if there's a waitlist.
Next, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements. You can find this information on the property page or by calling the property manager directly.
The property staff can help with questions about availability, rent, income requirements, and how to apply for housing.
-
Once you determine there is availability and you are eligible to apply, download the application from the property’s website page or pick up a paper application at the apartment community’s leasing office.
Complete the application and submit it according to the instructions. For each application you submit, there is a non-refundable application fee of up to $35 to cover credit and background reports.
For most applications, applicants will be asked to supply employment history (recent paycheck stubs or verification of employment), bank statements, prior rental history, driver’s license or state-issued identification (ID), birth certificates, and social security cards for all who will be living in the household.
If you have any questions, contact the property management office directly.
-
A leasing agent will contact you if you are eligible to move into the property and will inform you if additional information is needed to secure an apartment.
-
Respond promptly to the request for information and schedule a time to sign your lease.
-
Move into your new apartment home!
What are my options if there are no available units in a community I’m interested in?
