Townhomes at Washington Terrace
The Village at Washington Terrace offers a total of 162 apartment homes: 54 one-bedroom/1 bath units, 78 two-bedroom garden and townhome style units with 1.5 or 2 bathrooms, respectively and 30 three-bedroom/2 bath units.
In addition to energy-efficient affordable housing, the property will also include on-site management services, a 5,400 square foot child care facility leased and operated by the Methodist Home for Children, community clubhouse, business center, laundry facility, fitness room, and on-site resident services coordination.
The area around the community clubhouse will include age-appropriate children’s play areas, community gardens, picnic shelters and grills, and other areas for residents to enjoy the outdoors. This community is pet free and only allows smoking in designated outdoor areas.
Ashton Place
Ashton Place Apartments will offer 51 affordable apartment homes: 12 efficiency units, 28 one-bedroom/one-bath units & 11 two-bedroom/one bath units for senior households with incomes at or below 60% of area median income. Accessible units are available. Ashton will feature common area laundry facility, computer center for residents, community gathering room with kitchen, tenant storage areas, fitness room with equipment, indoor and outdoor sitting area, complimentary WIFI and on-site management. Ashton Place is 100% Smoke Free – no smoking will be allowed anywhere on the grounds.
Brookridge
Brookridge offers 40 studio apartments in a smoke-free building for individuals with annual incomes of 50% or less of the median income for Wake County. Each studio apartment, approximately 450 square feet, includes a full kitchen and bath, along with a combination living and sleeping area. With ample storage space and open floor plans, these studios offer roominess and flexibility.
DHIC worked with Wake County Human Services and representatives from referral agencies to plan Brookridge as a community that helps individuals make the successful transition from homelessness, transitional housing programs and overcrowded, costly or substandard housing. Ten units are restricted to individuals earning 30% of area median income (AMI), 20 units are for individuals earning 40% of AMI, and 10 units are for individuals earning 50% of AMI.
Willow Creek
DHIC recently completed Willow Creek, a 53-unit, 100% smoke-free apartment community in Cary for older adults, ages 55 and above. Conveniently located near the Morrisville Market shopping center off Davis Dr., Willow Creek residents enjoy the convenience and walkability to nearby retail and services. A hallmark of DHIC’s design, Willow Creek apartments are eco-friendly with water saving fixtures, and energy-efficient heating, cooling and appliances and features amenities that encourage interaction among neighbors. Through a partnership with Resources for Seniors, various services and community activities for the senior residents are offered.
Water Garden Park
Northwest Raleigh’s newest age-restricted, affordable apartment community located in a beautiful suburban setting. An unbeatable location just 5 minutes from Brier Creek, Crabtree Valley Mall and I-540. These condominium-inspired apartments offer plenty of community gathering spaces. Enjoy amenities such as a resort-like swimming pool, picnic area with grill and outdoor shuffleboard court, plus shaded patios throughout.
Wakefield Manor
Wakefield Manor offers 96 one- and two-bedroom apartments homes in a smoke-free building for seniors ages 55 years and older in Wakefield Plantation of North Raleigh. This convenient location provides residents with easy access to shopping, restaurants, healthcare, public transportation, banks, and entertainment.
Supportive services through Resources for Seniors of Wake County are available for individuals with special needs, in addition to regularly programmed activities for all residents.
Primavera Apartments
Primavera opened in 2023 and includes 164 apartments for seniors (130 one-bedroom/one-bath units, 34 two-bedroom/one bath) in two residential buildings. The community features covered drive-through porte cocheres, common laundry facilities along with laundry hook-ups in each unit, computer centers for residents, community gathering rooms with kitchen, tenant storage areas, fitness rooms, indoor and outdoor sitting areas, patio/porches, and an on-site management office in both buildings. The two buildings are arranged to form a courtyard area that will have a covered outdoor gathering space. The residents will have access to supportive service coordination provided by Resources for Seniors to help enable them to live independently as long as possible.
Pennington Grove I & II
Pennington Grove is 100% smoke-free apartment community in Garner for active adults, ages 55 and above, made up of two buildings. Located off of Heather Park Drive, at Pennington Grove I & II, residents enjoy the convenience of nearby retail, services, and the brand new Pool Family YMCA. A hallmark of DHIC’s design, Pennington Grove I & II apartments are eco-friendly with water saving fixtures, and energy-efficient heating, cooling and appliances and features amenities that encourage interaction among neighbors. Through a partnership with Resources for Seniors, various services and community activities for the senior residents are offered. All units are for senior households with incomes at or below 60% of area median income.
Pennington Grove I has 83 units and was completed in 2018. Pennington Grove II was completed in 2022 and offers 69 affordable apartment homes.
Murphey School
Murphey School is a 48-unit apartment community conveniently located in downtown Raleigh adjacent to the historic Oakwood neighborhood. A Raleigh Historic Landmark, the newly renovated Murphey School Apartments provides a security system, elevator, fireproof design with sprinklers throughout, on-site resident manager, on-site laundry facilities, fitness room, a library/media room including computers for resident use, handicapped accessible units, ample community space for resident activities, and new landscaping.

Meadowcreek Commons offers 48 high-quality, yet affordable apartments for seniors 55 years of age and greater. These apartments have been designed, built, and registered for LEED for Homes Silver certification by the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED for Homes program.
LEED for Homes is a national, voluntary certification system, developed by experts and experienced builders, that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. The LEED for Homes program also encourages the adoption of sustainable practices by the homebuilding industry.
LEED for Homes is part of the suite of nationally recognized LEED Green Building Rating Systems administered by the USGBC. Third party verification of Highland Terrace’s LEED certification credits is accomplished through a partnership with Southern Energy Management of Morrisville, NC.

Completed in 2005, Highland Manor Apartments are part of DHIC’s multi-use Highland Village community in Cary. Highland Manor has 32 units restricted to seniors, and all are one-bedroom with the exception of one two-bedroom unit for the resident manager. Two units are designed with accessible features. It is a unique housing community because it can provide homes for seniors with extremely limited incomes.

Greenfield Commons
Greenfield Commons is 69-unit apartment communities for seniors ages 55+. The community will feature one- and two-bedroom apartments in one building.
The Commons at Highland Village
Convenience and a carefree lifestyle await you at The Commons at Highland Village, 68- units of one- and two-bedroom apartments with some handicapped accessible units available. Each apartment is fully carpeted and features a range and self-cleaning oven, refrigerator with icemaker, and dishwasher. Also included are mini-blinds on all windows, fire sprinkler system, secure entrance with card access and intercoms to apartments.

Capital Towers
Capital Towers Apartments is a two-building 297-unit senior apartment community for those ages 55+.
All of the apartments at Capital Towers will be affordable to seniors earning 60% or less of the area median income. At least 60% of the units in Capital Towers 1 will be targeted to seniors earning 50% of the area median income.
Booker Park South
Booker Park South is an independent living community that includes a total of 68 apartment homes (54 one-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom units) for individuals 55 and older.
DHIC received Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (9% award) in 2020 for Booker Park South at Washington Terrace. Booker Park South is the third phase of the Washington Terrace redevelopment near downtown Raleigh, adjacent to St. Augustine’s University. The residents enjoy common laundry facilities, washer/dryer hookups in all units, tenant storage areas, fitness center, community gathering room with kitchen, and on-site property management. Residents at Booker Park South also have access to supportive service coordination through Resources for Seniors.
Booker Park North
Booker Park North is an independent living community that includes a total of 72 apartment homes for individuals 62 and older. This community features 58 one-bedroom and 12 two-bedroom apartments in one building.
Willard Street
Located adjacent to the Durham Station Transportation Center and American Tobacco Campus, Willard Street Apartments offers 82 affordable apartment homes (39 one-bedroom & 43 two-bedroom) for modest wage earners working in downtown Durham with a mix of 30% and 60% AMI units.
Willard Street Apartments is a part of a four-story building with two elevators built above two stories of structured parking, with 5,000 square feet of street-level retail space and a landscaped plaza overlooking the city skyline. Amenities include on-site management, community multi-purpose room and kitchen, fitness room, business center, and laundry facilities.
Partners on this project include the Self-Help Ventures Fund, Duke University, the City of Durham, and Capitol Broadcasting.
Water Garden Village
Water Garden Village is our brand new, 100% smoke-free development located in Northwest Raleigh. Designed and built to achieve LEED Gold and Energy Star certifications, Water Garden Village’s green design elements help make this development an environmentally friendly and cost-effective place to live.
Water Garden Village features one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Apartments are available to households that meet certain income limits. Handicapped accessible units are available.
