DHIC, Inc. has launched a new foreclosure prevention counseling service designed to help Triangle-area homeowners who are at risk of losing their homes find alternatives to foreclosure.  Veteran mortgage banker, Lou Sivulka, has been hired to serve as Homeownership Counselor and Foreclosure Prevention Specialist for the new program.

“We welcome this opportunity to expand our homeownership counseling services to include foreclosure prevention and to further our mission to strengthen families and communities through housing and wealth creation opportunities,” said Gregg Warren, DHIC President.

DHIC is one of 47 organizations participating in the new statewide foreclosure prevention initiative launched by the North Carolina Attorney General using $13 million received in the National Mortgage Settlement.

Under the program, DHIC’s Homeownership Center offers free counseling and support for borrowers who may be eligible for financial payments under the National Mortgage Settlement, helps homeowners work with servicers to seek loan modifications, and counsels homeowners on their options to avoid foreclosure.

In addition, DHIC will help eligible homeowners who have lost their jobs apply for loans from the N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund to make their mortgage payments while they look for a job or complete job training. These zero-interest loans are offered by the N.C. Housing Finance Agency using funds from the U.S. Treasury and are considered satisfied after homeowners have lived in their homes for 10 years.

Sivulka brings 17 years of mortgage banking experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA.
