Welcoming Our Newest Neighbors: Primavera Residents Gather To Celebrate NeighborWorks Week 2024
June 24, 2024
On June 1st, over 100 residents, DHIC team members, and development partners came together to celebrate DHIC’s 50th anniversary as part of our week-long NeighborWorks Week 2024 celebration.
The special event held at Primavera—our newest senior community in Wake County with 164 apartments in two residential buildings—was filled with laughter, shared meals, and friendly competition in bingo and lawn games, fostering a sense of connection and community among the residents. Attendees also enjoyed seeing the newest growth in the community garden as a result of Primavera’s resident-led garden club.
“NeighborWorks Week is all about celebrating the power of community and connections. This event was an important opportunity for Primavera residents to get to know each other and learn more about who DHIC is, not just at this particular location, but also to understand how DHIC is part of a larger network of organizations that do this type of work all across the country,” DHIC VP of Resource Development & Partnerships Atinuke “Tinu” Diver explains “It’s about more than just celebrating the construction of housing; it’s also about supporting residents as they build community.”
During the lunch event, residents mingled with each other, DHIC staff, board members, development partners, and even members of the building and design team, like Noah Morris, the architect on the build.
Jill Baldwin of Resources for Seniors, a local nonprofit and DHIC community partner, was also on-site to talk with residents about their services like health and wellness checks, aging-in-place resources, and more ways to address their needs that impact their lives outside of housing.
Following the lunch and games, DHIC presented the community with a custom set of DHIC cornhole boards featuring a new rebranded logo and bingo supplies to keep on hand to enjoy together at the property. Tinu says, “We hope that the connections formed between neighbors at this event will lead to more resident-led social events as residents continue building community with each other.”
