On this Giving Tuesday, DHIC wanted to first take this opportunity to thank all of our amazing partners for their time, donations, and guidance throughout this year. We are so appreciative of the many companies and individuals that contributed over $350,000 to our Resident Resilience Fund, which will be used to ensure that our residents remain successfully housed and overcome short-term financial crises.

We especially want to thank and acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our community partners that have worked tirelessly to assist us in meeting the services needs of our residents. Though there are many to name and thank, we would like to take this year’s Giving Tuesday opportunity to highlight the following: Resources for Seniors, Advance Community Health, The Raleigh Dream Center, and Overflowing Hands, Inc. These organizations, along with many others, have been instrumental in supporting DHIC during the Coronavirus public health pandemic and assisting us in delivering essential services to seniors, families, and children living in our communities. Below, we showcase some of the ways these organizations have been invaluable during this time. We encourage you to visit their websites and learn more about their missions. And, if you choose, please feel free to direct your Giving Tuesday gift to support their ongoing efforts.

Resources for SeniorsResources for Seniors: Over the last 25 years, DHIC and Resources for Seniors, a local non-profit, have partnered to ensure that seniors have access to services that allow them to live independent, active lives. With the impact of COVID-19, the partnership has required a new approach as we all work to meet the demands and needs of seniors most impacted by the pandemic. Going above and beyond for our seniors, the Resources for Seniors Service Coordinators not only conducted wellness checks, but they coordinated with community partners, local restaurants, and volunteers to safely provide and deliver prepared meals to seniors during the stay-at-home order. They also delivered grocery bags of fresh produce and shelf-stable foods to residents in need and provided help accessing emergency medication for those who lost their health insurance due to the pandemic.

Advance Community HealthAdvance Community Health: Advance Community Health is a non-profit community health center, providing quality health care to the privately insured, uninsured, under-insured, and medically-underserved patients. DHIC is proud to partner with Advance Community Health to combat the spread of COVID-19. Select DHIC apartment communities served as testing sites for the general community, as well as our residents. Through these testing events, hundreds of individuals were able to access free COVID-19 testing. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Advance Community Health through the pandemic and beyond. We encourage you to visit their website and learn more about all the services they provide.

Raleigh Dream CenterRaleigh Dream Center: Raleigh Dream Center is a non-profit, faith based organization that provides social services and community programs to under-privileged communities. Raleigh Dream Center has been a partner of DHIC since 2015. This summer, through their collaboration with Wake County Public Schools and other non-profits, they distributed meals across our family apartment communities. This project provided healthy food for school aged children who otherwise may not have had access due to COVID-19. Additionally, Raleigh Dream Center’s Adopt-A-Block program provides residents at DHIC communities with food, back-to-school supplies, and a toy giveaway for families in need in December.

Overflowing HandsOverflowing Hands, Inc: Overflowing Hands, Inc. is a 100% volunteer based non-profit organization that provides basic needs and resources for children, families, and their neighborhoods. DHIC is fortunate for our newly formed partnership with Overflowing Hands through the COVID-19 pandemic. Their team distributes fresh produce boxes, milk, and frozen meals across Wake County, including DHIC family communities. We are grateful that our residents, as well as many others across Wake County, can have access to healthy, balanced meals. All the proceeds donated to Overflowing Hands will go directly to purchasing food so that they can continue to provide for families in need.

While these are just a few of the amazing partners DHIC works with, we hope you take the time to visit the websites of each non-profit and learn more about the great services they provide to Raleigh and Wake County residents. If you feel it in your heart to donate, we know your donations will go to a great cause. You can also donate to DHIC by clicking this link.
