Here at DHIC, we believe that quality should never be sacrificed to build and maintain affordable housing communities. We work to provide our residents with modern, upgraded homes at an affordable cost.

This is why we’ve put a special focus on rehabbing the 72 apartment units in Apex’s Beechridge community, a development that was built nearly 25 years ago.

In October 2020, we began a development-wide rehab project with a budget of $1.8 million to modernize these units so that they meet the same standards we set for new builds. Best of all, we’ve coordinated with the residents, so they don’t have to move out of their homes during the renovations.

Since this rehab project took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, we took extra safety precautions to keep all of our residents, staff, and contractors safe, with temperature checks, COVID-19 screenings, and strict quarantine policies in the event of exposure. We’re proud to say that we’re on track to complete the rehab project in August and we’ve had no community spread of COVID-19 in the process.

Through the course of the project, our contractors have updated the apartments by installing new:

  • Flooring
  • Kitchen cabinets
  • Countertops
  • Sinks
  • Kitchen appliances
  • Bathroom vanities
  • Light fixtures
  • Hot water heaters

The updates also included roof replacements and HVAC service upgrades as needed. The Beechridge residents are thrilled with the updates, not only because they’re proud to live in a beautiful, high-quality space, but because it gives them a sense of peace.

“We help our residents recognize and experience truly quality housing and show them that they don’t have to settle for less than that,” explains Rodney Brown, our Director of Asset Management. “Living in a DHIC community means that our residents don’t have to worry about how they’re going to pay next month’s rent while also worrying about what appliance is going to break next. They can focus their attention on other important areas of their life like going back to school, furthering their careers, or taking care of their families.”

Best of all, there is even more good to come! In the future, we’re planning phase 2 of the Beechridge rehab project, which will include exterior updates to the siding, breezeway lights, balcony railings, and more. We’ll post more information about phase 2 as it becomes available.

For now, we hope you’ll take a look at our video to get an even better idea of the amazing things happening in our Beechridge community.
