We are excited to celebrate NeighborWorks Week with the completion and dedication of Greenfield Place, an 80-unit community for modest income families in Chapel Hill.
The celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 23 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at 150 Formosa Lane, Chapel Hill, NC 27517, rain or shine.
Attendees will hear from two special guest speakers, Chapel Hill Mayor Pam Hemminger and Congressman David Price, before taking a tour of two units and enjoying lunch following the program.
The ceremony will give us a chance to thank those who helped make Greenfield Place a reality, including community partners and the development team. It will also allow us to recognize our financing partners: The Town of Chapel Hill, Orange County, the State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation, the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, Enterprise Community Investment, Inc. and BB&T.
“We are excited to complete our first development in Orange County and Chapel Hill and would like to extend a huge thanks to Town of Chapel Hill leaders and staff for their many contributions and support that made this project possible,” says Natalie Britt, DHIC’s Vice President for Real Estate Development.
Greenfield Place consists of one-, two- and three-bedroom plans for families earning up to 60% of the area median income, with rents ranging from $271 to $870. The community includes a shared clubhouse, business center and children’s playground and gives residents easy access to nearby shopping, services and a bus line.
Development of Greenfield Place, which was phase 1 of the project, began in December 2016 and took about a year to complete. As of April, all of the units have been filled.
Greenfield Commons, which is phase 2 of the project, will consist of 69 one- and two-bedroom units for seniors, 55 and up, and is scheduled for completion in February 2019.

During the month of June, NeighborWorks organizations from around the country organize and engage tens of thousands of residents, neighbors, volunteers, businesspeople, and civic leaders to host more than 150 community events to celebrate NeighborWorks Week. The events are designed to raise awareness about the importance of having safe, vibrant, healthy neighborhoods to live; to acknowledge the contributions of residents, volunteers and community partners; and to celebrate neighborhoods and communities. As a NeighborWorks organization, DHIC is proud to be a part of this year’s celebration with the dedication of Greenfield Place.
