Each year, the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency recognizes affordable housing accomplishments throughout the state during their NC Affordable Housing Conference. This year, we are honored to announce that DHIC was awarded the 2022 Housing North Carolina Award for Rental Development for our Willard Street Apartments in Durham.
Willard Street Apartments, an affordable mixed-use apartment community for working families in Durham, was financed with Low-Income Housing Tax Credits awarded by the NC Housing Finance Agency. The community features 82 apartment homes serving residents that earn between 30-60% of the area median income.
Upon accepting the award, DHIC VP of Resource Development & Partnerships, Tinu Diver, said, “At a time of dramatic rent increases, rising home sale prices, and the increased displacement of our neighbors and neighborhoods, we are grateful for the vision, courage, and leadership of the city of Durham to contribute public land to one of the first mixed-use, transit-oriented, affordable housing developments in the state of North Carolina.”
We’re humbled and honored to receive this recognition and look forward to continuing these efforts in Durham and the rest of the Triangle.
