Please join us in welcoming Liz Martin, our new Office and Special Projects Coordinator, to the DHIC team.

In this role, Liz is responsible for a wide range of administrative and event planning tasks. Additionally, she supports fund raising and marketing activities and serves as the executive assistant to the president.

Says Liz, “Every day is a little bit different, which makes my job a lot of fun. On any given day, I might prep for a board meeting, get posters printed or assist with grant applications. I enjoy the variety of tasks that I get to work on each week.”

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Liz moved to Columbia, South Carolina to attend the University of South Carolina. After graduating, she began her career in nonprofit work, something that she’s been passionate about for as long as she can remember.

She says, “My goal has always been to go into work each day knowing that I’m helping to make a difference in someone’s life. It’s important to me to believe in the mission of wherever I’m working. It helps me get out of bed every day, knowing that I’m part of moving our progress forward.”

After working for two years at the Alston Wilkes Society, a nonprofit dedicated to providing offenders, former offenders, the homeless, at-risk youth, veterans and their families the tools needed to become productive citizens, in Columbia, Liz decided to make the move to Raleigh. When looking for a new job in the area, DHIC seemed like a natural fit.

“I immediately felt connected to the mission that DHIC supports and was excited to join the team. Beyond the incredible work that our organization is doing, I’ve also really enjoyed getting to know everyone on the staff. This is a group of hardworking people that have been welcoming and willing to help me learn since my first day here,” she says.

Outside of work, Liz enjoys spending time outside with her five-year-old Border Collie Australian Shepherd mix, Kadin. She says, “For me, weekends are all about getting out of the house. Whether that’s taking Kadin for a walk around a lake, going hiking or backpacking or hitting the gym, I’m happiest when I’m being active.”
