Meet the Fresh Faces at DHIC

September 18, 2020

Please join us in welcoming two new members of the DHIC team. Director of Finance and Accounting, Michael Ward, and Construction Manager, Geoff Michalek, have hit the ground running in helping us connect more people to safe, affordable, and healthy housing here in the Triangle.

Get to know them better, below.

Michael Ward

As the Director of Finance and Accounting, Michael brings a fresh perspective to our Finance team, helping us look for new opportunities as our organization continues to grow. While finance is his primary focus, he’ll be working cross-functionally with all of our teams.

“Throughout my career, I’ve realized the value in Finance being a strong strategic partner to people in other departments. My goal is to build on the strong foundation here at DHIC and help push the team forward to continued success,” he explains.

Michael’s background is in for-profit and not-for-profit finance and accounting across a variety of industries, including real estate development, health care, and education. With DHIC, he feels like he’s found the perfect fit.

“DHIC is truly the perfect combination of all the things I care about most: real estate development, public-private partnerships, and the greater Raleigh area. I’m excited about how I can help DHIC continue to reach and exceed our affordable housing goals,” Michael says.

When he’s not working, Michael is active in his church community at Edenton Street United Methodist Church and enjoys volunteer work. You can also find him spending time with his wife, Danielle, and their son, MacCade, and attending as many NC State basketball games as possible.

Geoff Michalek

Construction Manager, Geoff, joins our team to help streamline the design & construction phases of our developments, from implementing value-driven philosophies in design, to overseeing and holding accountable the general contractor during the construction phase, he is involved in all parts of the building process.

He says, “I get to be in a unique position in this role, aiding the collaborative process and connecting the dots between all the project team members – DHIC Staff, Architects, Engineers, Contractors, Subcontractors & Suppliers. I love the collaborative process and it’s my goal to make sure we’re always working as a team with a common vision that delivers the best product for both our organization and our residents.”

Geoff’s background is in for-profit general contracting and construction risk management, having worked in senior living development and construction lending consulting on projects over the last 15 years. But he’s excited about this new change of pace.

“It’s refreshing to be with a group of people where our goals revolve around serving our community and our residents. The culture at DHIC is unmatched and I can’t wait to see what we can all accomplish together,” Geoff explains.

Geoff and his fiancée, Gina, recently moved to the Triangle from Cleveland and are happy to be in a warmer climate. They enjoy taking weekend trips to the coast with their Bernese Mountain Dog, Travis. Geoff also tries to hit the golf course as often as he can, which has been one of his hobbies since he was a child.
